Family Room Built-in Revealed

Welcome to our Family Room

I am in love with how our new house is coming along, but my favorite thing to date is the new built-in we had made for our family room. I always dreamed of having a gorgeous built-in that would be the focal point of our family room with big open shelves to style differently each season, and in our last house it was something I really wished we had. So for our new house it was a top priority and I am sooo excited to reveal it styled today!!

I found all of my inspiration for the design on my Pinterest Board and presented it to a millworker to create. I went with a shiplap center extending all the way to the ceiling of our vaulted room and had our TV mounted; then on either side I did open shelving in a beautiful white wash wood with cabinets at the bottom for storage. I used the same Atlas Sweetbriar pulls in Matte Black as I used in our kitchen and bar room so the whole house would tie together.

Styling my Shelves

My goal for my very first styling was to create a Coastal Spring Vibe. To style, I chose decorative accents and boxes in white, wood and white picture frames, and neutral or blue coffee table books. My overarching goal was for it to feel clean, minimal, and airy, so I really didn’t over-fill the shelves.

I did my best to link what I could for you with Shopping Links but a few items I want to highlight some of my favorite decorative pieces…

Kathy Kuo has the most gorgeous decorative boxes here and here (these are HUGE!), Jonathan Adler has so many fun white pottery pieces like this and this, and Pottery Barn sells sets of books so filling your shelves is a snap – it’s genius; check them out here.

Hope you love this space as much as I do!!
