A First Look at our New Kitchen

Touring the #FHModFarmHouse

Our New Kitchen

I am SO excited to share our new kitchen is nearly complete and I am IN LOVE with the big and bright open space for our family. I always loved an all-white kitchen (like we had in our last home) but this time around I wanted a white kitchen with a bit more dimension. I accomplished the look I was hoping for by adding bold hardware, an accent color island, and modern light fixtures. Today I wanted to share a closer look and all the details!!

All the Design Details

I designed my dream kitchen with a company called Trimline Design Center here in Miami, FL. The team at Trimline, specifically Nancy, helped me take my house floor plan and transform it into a well-designed kitchen that flowed well, had enough storage for my glassware (which you know is more than most!), an island large enough to seat my whole family, and more.

For the countertops I went with a quartz from Wilsonart that is called Calacatta Aquilea. The counters look just like a calacatta gold marble with a white base and natural veining, but the quartz material is sooo much more practical for a busy family that is constantly eating tomato sauce and doing homework at the counter. I am so thrilled with the color and quality of this material.

I cannot tell you how happy I am with my choice of sink. I knew I wanted a Kohler farmhouse sink but was torn about two basins versus one, so I went to the Kohler Signature Store in South Miami and saw some options in person. The Kohler store has an incredibly knowledgeable and helpful staff that made sure I had all the parts I needed from a disposal to the dreamiest faucet and delivered everything to my home. Ultimately I decided on the Kohler Ironridge Undermount Sinkbowl in white 36″ and the Kohler Crue Single-handle sink faucet. Every single person who comes over is jealous of my sink – it is huge!!! I sooo happy I went with the single basin because there is so much room for washing big platters and baking dishes. It could not be more perfect for the lady who loves to host.

Finishing Touches

To get the look I wanted in my kitchen, I knew I needed bold hardware. So I fell in love with Atlas Homeware’s Sweetbriar Lane Collection in matte black. I knew extra long pulls would have a huge impact as well so I chose mostly 8 13/16″ and 12″ pulls for my long cabinets and appliances, and then 6 5/16″ for the smaller drawers. In the photo above you can really appreciate the way these longer handles make the cabinets appear long and sleek!! (Also note that the panel on the fridge is temporary and will eventually have beautiful paneling but as construction goes these days, things are always delayed!!)

The pendant lights I chose for the kitchen were actually one of the first things I chose before I started construction. I love that they are modern and cool without being over-powering. And I love that I could still do white while the black wires tie in perfectly with the black handles. These pendants are called the Anello 18″ Spun Cone Pendant from Rejuvenation and come with a custom cord length, which was ideal from my vaulted ceiling!

Since this kitchen is open-concept facing our backyard, the house ultimately has a real coastal feeling. So playing off that vibe, I loved the idea of adding rattan and natural wood elements into the space. I chose the Serena & Lily Balboa Counter Stools because they have a beautiful woven rattan back with just a bit of elegance due to the gold detailing at the base. I opted for white cushions which actually are a performance fabric – which is necessary as a mother of 3 – and so far they see, great and wipe-able!

That’s a wrap on the new kitchen!! I hope this answered most of your questions about this new space, but of course ask away in the comments below!! Looking forward to sharing new spaces in our new home with you.
