For some reason coming home after the Holidays this year was harder than ever. Maybe it was leaving the incredible beach days and happy hour sunsets {snapshot from my instagram here} or maybe it’s the fact that the weather in New York has been unbearable the last few days, but it’s just been down right depressing. I knew I needed a pick-me-up of sorts to get me back on track and in the swing of things, so I decided todo a little sprucing up around the apartment so I could better channel the happy days of spring. If you are also facing the winter blues, these tips may just do the trick… they did for me!
Start by picking up fresh flowers. I pick up flowers weekly, but rarely do I do rich vibrant colors – especially in the winter. So this week I decided to throw that out the window and go for bright pink. Pink roses are in season, so you can get them pretty much anywhere. They also last about 5 days or more if you are lucky, so they are a good buy. I mixed them with white ranunculus {which I actually saw the other day at Trader Joe’s so I know they are around!} but any white accent will do. For my vases I always like todo a set at different heights; I started with this Jonathan Adler Charade Tiered Studded Vase {which is actually on sale… totally go for it, I have two of them!} and then for the smaller one, the Jonathan Adler Futura Bullseye Vase.
Freshen up your pillows on your couch. You can do this by 1. Swapping bedroom accent pillows with your couch {like I did last season from here to here}, 2. Buying new pillow covers and replacing over one of the accent pillows you have, or 3. Buying a new set of pillows all together! I decided to buy these West Elm shaggy white pillows. My husband was thrilled because he always complains our couch should be cozier and these are INCREDIBLY soft, and I was happy because they bring a new texture to the room.
Think about scent decor! I love candles but because I have kids I hate having them lit on my coffee table for fear that the one second I turn around they will go straight for the flame. Instead I found an incredible scent by #Unstopables called Shimmer. I love the room spray but they also have fabric spray and plug-in oils. You better believe I have been spritzing the whole room for a sweet spring time scent. {Perk: They have “luxury perfume micro capsule technology” that make them ultra long-lasting.}
Frame some new pictures from your fabulous trips. My mom always asks why I take a thousand pictures a day on my i-Phone but never do anything with them. Well thanks Mom because a resolution of mine is to start printing new ones every month and rotating the frames in my house! My kids change so much every month anyways that it’s fun to have recent ones. {Another idea: Don’t waste those gorgeous scenic shots! Print and frame a series of three in size 11×16 and you instantly have a new wall of art.}
I am definitely feeling a bit more pep in my step as I walk past this room; I hope this helps you break out of your winter rut!
