There’s nothing better than cozying in on your couch on a cold winter night with friends, great wine and a complimentary selection of cheeses. So what’s a great cold weather wine and delicious cheese to match back? I had to ask my friends over at Uproot for their recommendation. {Flashback: remember when the founders gave me tons of great wine tips on FH… this interview is actually a good read before the Holidays.}
The Uproot team said to serve up their ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ because it’s like the comfort food of wine. Rich and complex flavors make it the perfect wine to drink fireside, while watching a movie, or entertaining friends. Then the best cheeses to match back to red wine… Any bold cheese works well, though Cabernet pairs especially well with intense and salty cheeses, smoked or aged cheddars and goudas, parmigiano reggiano, aged manchego, and pecorino. One fun tip they recommend… ‘Pair locally when it comes to wines and cheeses’ ie. choose ones that come from the same region. The Uproot team loves serving California wines with California cheeses. A perfect match to their Cabernet Sauvignon is Midnight Moon goat’s milk gouda.
Now on to decor… I love black and metallics this time of year {I never mind mixing golds and silvers}, so I styled my cheeses on my Michael Aram Rock Gold Mirrored Cheese platter with matching cheese knives. Then I laid out a black linen Kim Seybert napkin {similar here} with ‘Cheers’ coasters from TJ Maxx {similar here} to display my wine glasses. I never put wine bottles directly on the table so I love this Mariposa pearled wine cozy for housing the wine. The final touch is a few decorative items on my coffee table. I stored matches for my new Vanille scented Diptyque candle in a Michael Aram rock dish and I filled my Alessi “La Stanza Dello Scirocco” Fruit Holder with decorative textured balls also from TJ Maxx. I am excited for a cozy night in!
