Healthy Halloween Board for the Kids

Happy… I mean Healthy Halloween

Every Halloween we host a little gathering for our neighborhood trick-or-treaters. It’s casual and easy – we order pizzas and salads and the kids and parents enjoy a light dinner in our front yard before we begin trick-or-treating for the evening. I always like to add a little homemade touch to my display so I began browsing Instagram and Pinterest for some sort of “Halloween Board” . The problem was I didn’t want to make a candy board because I knew the kids would be eating more than enough while trick-or-treating, and while I love a cheese board, I knew the kids wouldn’t get much out of it. So then I came up with the idea todo a Healthy Halloween Board – a board filled with tons of kid-friendly options with a fun Halloween twist. So that maybe, just maybe, the kids would have a little something healthy in their bellies other than the sweets.

So here it is… my Kid-friendly Healthy Halloween Board. The perfect Board to whip up for a Halloween celebration at school or before you head out for the evening. My kids LOVED when they came home to this board after the shoot!! Here’s what I did….

Spooky String Cheese

This is so easy and so cute. Just take a sharpie and draw three circles for two eyes and a mouth to transform your string cheeses into ghosts!!

Mandarin Pumpkins

Peel your mandarin oranges and place a little celery stick into the top and tadaaaa you have little orange pumpkins!!

Ghost Bananas

Really hoping the kids eat these!! Cut bananas in half and use a dab of sunbutter to attach mini chocolate chip eyes!!

Halloween pretzels

Take store bought yogurt covered pretzels and use a dab of honey to attach edible candy eyes. Apply them in different ways to look extra silly.

Mummy Hot Dogs

Hoping the kids get a bit of protein with this one!! Purchase Pillsbury crescent rolls and hot dogs from the grocery. Unroll your crescent roll and using a knife, cut the rectangle into 1/2-inch strips. Beginning at one end of hot dog, wrap the thin strip of dough around hot dog, leaving small gaps between, and a slightly larger gap at the top for the eyes. Bake in the oven as directed for the crescent. Once cooked and cooled, attach edible candy eyes with a dab of ketchup!

Ghosts & Guac

I am obsessed with Veggie Straws Limited Edition bats and ghost shapes for Halloween. Not only are they cute, but they are way healthier than your average chips!! And paired back to a bowl of guacamole, they are the perfect dipping treat!!

Scary Veggies

One more veggie trick was todo ants on a log Halloween style… I usually make with sunbutter to avoid any peanut allergy issues!! Fill your celery with sunbutter and top with candy eyes!!

Spooky Presentation

The perfect backdrop to this display are there Mackenzie-Childs “Spooky” mini pumpkins (set of 6) displayed on Grandin Road white pedestals (which come in sets of 3). Then surrounding the platter and minis are Grandin Road’s gold jeweled pumpkins! I love this for any Halloween buffet backdrop!!

Wishing you a fabulous Halloween!
