HairCare Solution: Sleek and Straight

Fashionable Hostess Hair Care Solutions

Blow-outs have always been an obsession of mine. To be honest they began as a result of my scarring high school hair days, specifically senior year. I was a cheerleader that year {which I still laugh about because I was such a serious athlete on the tennis court that it seemed ironic that I threw that activity into the mix}. I remember that on game days we could wear our cheerleading outfit to school {a much more attractive option to our usual school dress code} so all the other girls on the squad showed up with their stick straight hair flowing down past their shoulders to complement the look. I had spent an hour the night before attempting to blow-dry my frizzy kinky waves (ah, the days before straightening irons), yet each morning I woke up with a big poof. I always attempted to tame the beast with a half up half down style, but by mid-day it always ended up in a pony tail or sometimes even in a bun. Obviously I was being an overly dramatic high-schooler and was being way too hard on myself, but it was ever since then I thought it was best to leave my locks to the professionals.

To this day, I have gotten much better at doing my own hair and get by doing it for most day-to-day meetings and activities, but in all seriousness I am a regular to Dream Dry, a one stop blowdry bar in the Flatiron District. I have been so many times with Reese {see an insta shot here} that they all now know her by name and ask about her on the occasion I come alone. For events, birthdays, and even photo shoots though you better believe I am getting it done. So long story short, when T3 gave me their new T3 SinglePass X Straightening Iron to style my hair straight for any special occasions, I figured it would go unused in my bathroom.

It wasn’t until that fatal phone call came… a close girlfriend invited me to an event with her that night and I didn’t have enough time to squeeze in a blowout, so I decided to give the iron a go. Thankfully and excitedly I am thrilled to report that it worked pretty impressively. In fact, I am actually not used to having my hair so straight since blowouts are usually done with a round brush and leave you with some wave. I had that whole pin straight look that I would have killed for in high school.

To complement my whole at-home styling {obviously again scarred by my frizz history} I made sure to include a few heat- friendly, frizz-defying products. I am a regular user of Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique for my morning bang touch-ups; it is a heat-activated creme for weak hair, which I must add smells delightful. To use, I dampen my bangs, add a dime size amount and then blow out with a blow dryer to straighten. In this case since my whole head was damp post-shower, I used a quarter sized amount and applied all over. I then blow-dried my hair with a flat brush to get it dry and relatively straight, and lastly moved on to the iron. I made sure to separate my hair into sections with a clip and began in the very back with the bottom layer and made my way up the head, ending with my bangs. After I was finished I used a dime size amount of L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream to smooth out any split ends and smooth any fly aways, plus adding some shine.

So there you go… I feel like I just had a therapy session letting you in on all of my hair trauma! But the bottom line is that this triple thread left me with locks that were event-worthy {and an added perk of lasting for 2 days afterward!}. Go figure, Dream Dry may be losing some business on me… well, at least that’s what my husband is hoping!
