Five Ideas for throwing the most Instagrammable Cinco de mayo party

Cinco de Mayo is such a fun holiday – margaritas, bright colored decorations, tacos, what more can you ask for?! So today, I wanted to share some tips for making your Cinco de Mayo Party the envy of everyone’s instagram. Whether it’s a party for 5 or 15, a few cute props can make it look like the BEST TIME EVER. So let’s fool everyone, shall we?! Here are my instagram party tips…

#1 Serve Festive Drinks

Margaritas are a must, so create a margarita bar. Buy margarita glasses (glass or acrylic), add salt to the rim by dipping the glasses in honey or agave and then following with margarita salt, then finish off by adding lime to the rim. Make your drinks with the yummiest mixes (I used Master of Mixes which only involves the mix and Tequila). And lastly, top off your drinks with a festive straw.

#2 Make a DIY Taco Bar

Take a long table – either a dining table or console table – and lay out your plates in the order in which guests will assemble their tacos. First your taco shells, next your meats or veggies, next your toppings like onions and peppers, next your shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes, and last, all the sauces like guac, sour cream, and array of salsas and hot sauces. Serve on fun plates (how great are these melamine palm leaf plates from Grandin Road) and don’t forget festive napkins, like these gorgeous and bright Jaipur Napkins from Kim Serbert.

#3 Create Instagrammable “Scenes”

I always take a central table (like my coffee table) and make it the main “scene” for instagram shots. It’s where I display my big bouquet of flowers, where I place all my cute decorations, and it’s usually a focal point around the seating. I use this space to take flat lays of decorations or to snap any “above” food and drink shots.

Here I decorated my “scene” with a tiered cake stand filled with lemons and limes (which is such an easy decor idea and adds a ton of color to your display in a snap!), I placed Brass Pineapples (which are also ice buckets – so cute!), mini cactus and rainbow colored donkey piñatas, and gorgeous beaded evil eye coasters (the “Jinxed Coasters”). If your coffee table is dark, I recommend laying a bright or light colored table runner across so your flat lay shots and decorations really pop!

# 4 Provide a Dress Code

I am not joking when I told my friends to dress like the Dancing Emoji Girl (you know her, the one wearing a little red dress who is basically screaming OLE!). But in all seriousness, I love giving a dress code so everyone looks coordinated for photos. For this party I said wear bright colors, colorful jewels, and come ready to dance!

# 5 Lots of Little Decorative Touches

Festive straws, bright coasters, mini piñatas all scream Fiesta! Shop a whole bunch of my picks and more at the bottom of the post!
