Our Open Concept Kitchen Tour

#FHModFarmHouse

Welcome to our Kitchen

After months of sneak peeks I owe you a full tour of our new kitchen, so here it is, as well as a better view of where it sits in our open concept family home.

I designed my kitchen with a company called Trimline Design Center here in Miami, FL. Nancy, the owner, took my house floor plans and my Pinterest renderings and turned an open space into this well-designed, incredibly functional kitchen with ample storage, an island large enough to seat 5 people (4’10” wide x 10’3″ long), and more.

My kitchen style is “all white with modern accents” meaning crisp white cabinetry contrasted by sleek black hardware, an oversized island with a base in an accent color (this fabulous blue was a custom color to Trimline), a black faucet to contrast the oversized white farmhouse sink, a white plaster range hood, and a few stainless steel appliances hidden away. More details on all of these below..

Black Hardware

To get the look I wanted in my kitchen, I knew I needed black hardware that had long sleek lines, and I quickly fell in love with Atlas Homeware’s Sweetbriar Lane Collection in matte black. I chose 8 13/16″ pulls for the top cabinets, 12″ pulls for my horizontal drawers, 6 5/16″ for the lower cabinets, 12″ pulls for the pantry cabinets, and an 18″ appliance pulls for my MIELE paneled fridge.

Sink & Faucet

I cannot tell you how happy I am with my choice of sink. I knew I wanted a Kohler farmhouse sink but was torn about two basins versus one. Thanks to several polls on my instagram and a final visit to the Kohler Signature Store in South Miami, I made the decision to go with one basin. I chose a new design, the Kohler Ironridge Undermount Sinkbowl in white size 36″. Every single person who comes over is jealous of my sink – it is huge!!! I sooo happy I went with the single basin because there is so much room for washing big platters.

For the Faucet I chose the Kohler Crue Single-handle sink faucet in matte black and I love the height, the functionality, and the profile view when you enter the kitchen!!

If you are hunting for sinks and faucets, I highly recommend visting the Kohler store because they have an incredibly knowledgeable and helpful staff that answered all my questions AND made sure I had all the parts – I totally would have forgotten a disposal (haha!), and best of all, they had it delivered right to my home.

Countertops

For the countertops I chose a beautiful quartz from Wilsonart that is called Calacatta Aquilea. The counters look just like a calacatta gold marble with a white base and natural grey veining, but the quartz material is sooo much more practical.

Pendant Lights

The pendant lights I chose for the kitchen were actually one of the first things I chose before I started construction. I love that they are modern and cool without being over-powering. And I love that I could still do white while the black wires tie in perfectly with the black hardware. These pendants are called the Anello 18″ Spun Cone Pendant from Rejuvenation and come with a custom cord length, which was ideal from my vaulted ceiling!

Bar Stools

Since this kitchen is open-concept facing our backyard, the house ultimately has a coastal feeling. So playing off that vibe, I loved the idea of adding rattan and natural wood elements into the space. I chose the Serena & Lily Balboa Counter Stools because they have a beautiful woven rattan back with just a bit of elegance due to the gold detailing at the base. I opted for white cushions which actually are a performance fabric – which is necessary as a mother of 3 – and so far they are great because the covers can easily be removed and tossed in the washing machine!

This view!

This view is really everything to me!! I loveeeeed my last kitchen because it was big and elegant, but being able to 1. have an open concept space where everyone is together whether they are reading on the couch, eating at the counter, or doing homework at the breakfast table, is SO NICE. And 2. being able to look out these french doors at the backyard and pool as I cook and entertain, when the kids are running or swimming outside, is just the BEST especially since we live in Miami where having open doors and sunshine is a year round luxury!! I went back and forth about the direction of the island and this one is definitely perfect for our lifetsyle!!
