Dinner Party Spotlight: Living with Landyn talks Easter

Continuing with the Easter prettiness, today’s FH Dinner Party Series Guest, Landyn of Living with Landyn created an adorable Easter display to share with us! To back track just a bit, Landyn and I were actually ‘down the street’ neighbors when I lived in Nashville {if you didn’t know I lived there for a hot minute, see my home tour here}!

Such a Southern sweetheart, Landyn writes an amazing lifestyle blog showcasing her fashion finds, home decor {she finds the best pieces at HomeGoods – it’s not fair!}, while maintaining an amazingly optimistic personality {just watch her insta stories for a taste!}, and somehow finding time to cook dinner for her family every night {and it always looks incredible!}. Landyn always talks about making “pretty choices for your home” and today it holds true with a “Sweet Delivery” for Easter! I am excited to share a Q&A with Landyn and a bit more about what she put together!!

Q & A:

FH: Tell me a quick bio of how you came to start Living with Landyn.

For as long as I can remember, my girlfriends and strangers would ask me things like where I got my shirt? Who cuts my hair? What is a quick dinner idea for tomorrow night? What color should I paint my bedroom? Where did you get that necklace? Needless to say, I spent a lot of time on my computer emailing and answering questions. However, over the years friends kept suggesting that I should become a resource for women and create a space where we could all go and have answers to these questions – and that is when Living With Landyn was born.

I have had the honor of having both my home and work featured on different magazines, websites and TV shows.  I have been in Better Homes and Gardens, Style Me Pretty, Today in Nashville, Family Circle, and Domino Magazine to name a couple.

FH: Since this is not our traditional FH Dinner Party Series, I wanted to skip to this fun display. Can you tell me more about what you created!

This is a shot of what I call a “Sweet Delivery.” Kids are often times more excited about dessert than the details so I especially like this idea for kids parties. I set the table ahead of time and just when things start to get wild, I add sugar. Ha! I believe having everything ready to go, helps the hostess to keep the party running smoothly. And dessert trays do make instant centerpieces. Cupcakes and candy are just so pretty!

In the photo I’m adding the final details to each setting. I used the tiny colored clothes pins to attach a paper bunny {sold as a banner, but I used as placecards instead} to each child’s napkin, which will also become their placecard. In the center of the table I have a white bucket with colored pencils, so that they can write their own name or decorate the bunny the way they wish.

The boxwood squares are from Marshall’s. They aren’t chargers, but that’s how I envisioned them and they were just the perfect touch of simplicity to a table full of color. The grass in the baskets under the eggs are mini potted faux grasses, also from Marshall’s.  I was ableI to fit 4 in there perfectly.

The eggs are wooden and sold at your local craft store. Using acrylic craft paint to first paint the eggs white. Then after they dry, taping off stripes with 1/4” frog tape and painting with your favorite pastels would be super easy project if you wanted a craft for the party. My suggestion would be to paint the eggs white ahead of time, then let the children decorate and take home at the end of the party.

Hope you enjoy this affordable Easter party idea!

FH: Now back to my usual questions… more about you!! What is your entertaining style? Traditional, Contemporary, Seasonal?

My entertaining style is classic and fresh. I like to start out with a neutral palette and then add a pop of color depending on the type of party, season or event. The first thing I think about when entertaining is two colors and a theme. You can build anything from those three elements.

FH: How often do you entertain and for how many guests?

I like to entertain quite often. Sometimes it’s just a great cheese tray with two other couples and sometimes it’s a Memorial Day barbecue for a crowd with all the fixins. I always love having people over and opening up my home to family and friends.

FH: Do you have a go-to recipe or dish?

Summer entertaining is my favorite. I love any excuse to use our outdoor living area. One of my go to recipes is nachos on the grill.  Anything from grilled chicken to steak, roast peppers, different types of cheeses, black beans, all the toppings and you are good to go.  Nachos are always a crowd pleaser!

I love to cook, but I am also not afraid to take shortcuts or hire it out when the occasion calls for.  The most important thing to me is being a good hostess, so I just always make sure that whatever the food situation is I am still able to be there to visit with my guests.  They came to have fun and visit, not watch me run around my kitchen like a maniac.

See Landyn’s recipes here.

FH: Do you have a go-to cocktail?

Grapefruit Margarita’s are my favorite. All you need is tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, grapefruit flavored Lacroix and fresh lime juice. Don’t forget a sugar salt rim!

FH: Table top… Share all the deets!!
