Inspiration for Cinco de Mayo at Home

Let’s Celebrate!

Celebrating and decorating for holidays during Quarantine may seem unnecessary from a cost perspective and daunting from a clean up perspective, but I am of the complete opposite view point. What brings me happiness in my everyday life are special occasions and events, so I have actually been seeking occasions to dress up, decorate, and have some fun. And in today’s post I wanted to share some easy and cost-effective decor ideas for Cinco de Mayo – which is TOMORROW – so let’s get moving!!

Lemon & Lime Centerpiece

It may be hard to get decorations or seem costly to buy flowers, but buying lemons and limes are an easy addition to your instacart order. Plus, these tasty citrus fruits can make it into your meals and drinks over the next week. Fresh squeezed lemonade over Mother’s Day this upcoming weekend?! Yes, please!

Used a tiered cake stand {here is mine} to place lemons and limes on various tiers. They look great mixed together or divided by color. If you don’t have a tiered cake stand, use tall vases {like in this pinterest photo}! And voila, you have a beautiful colorful centerpiece for your dinner table!

Taco Tuesday

You have to eat, so make your dinner Tuesday night – Taco Tuesday!! Create a Taco Bar with all the essential toppings. Start with a plate of tortillas, then you need proteins like chicken, fish, or beans, and then all the veggies – cilantro, cherry tomatoes, red onions, jalapeños, refried beans, salsa and tons of avocado! Home made guac and chips are a always a crowd pleaser as well as a side dish of grilled corn on the cob! Set it buffet style with lime wedges like I did above so you really feel like you are treating yourself at a restaurant.

It’s Margarita Time

Woohoo!! Finally an excuse to drink real cocktails!! Whip up margaritas {here are a few recipes I highly recommend: Watermelon Margaritas and Spicy Jalapeño Margaritas}. Serve in a margarita glass or coupe glass that you own and have been dying to use these past few weeks. Salt your rim or add a lime slice to really make it feel special. Feeling Extra? Search your party drawers for festive straws or crazy drink stirrers and cheers!

Decorate!

Take out your light box and put up slogans like “Fiesta Time” or “Cinco de Drinko”. Then take out anything you have that is colorful – bright placemats, patterned napkins, and even colorful glassware.Cinco de Mayo is all about big colorful pieces so have some fun.

And there you have it, it’s time to party!! Cheers to Cinco de Mayo no matter how small your celebration!!
