Casual Dining

Recently I shared a few changes we made to our breakfast nook; see the post here. After opening up the space (we removed a half wall), we are now using this cozy area, which houses our breakfast table and sits overlooking our backyard, more than ever!!

My favorite time to gather round the table as a family is on Sunday nights. I love to cook on Sundays (probably because during the week I am so rushed with work and kids activities that I just want to get food on the table), so on Sundays I can relax and cook at a nice pace, and most importantly to me, set a pretty table.

Eating as a family on Sundays is one of my favorite nights of the week. I cook “a feast” as my kids call it – essentially cleaning out our refrigerator from all the leftovers. And of course I set a casual but pretty table. When it comes time for dinner we even go around the table and share our favorite moment from the week – it’s the best.

But the point of this post was to share a look at an example of a casual table I like to throw together for a night like this. This is what I do for Sundays but it’s also what I do if we have weeknight guests and I don’t want to set the dining table. (I even set it nicely if we ordered takeout!!). It’s amazing what pretty placemats and crystal glasses can do!

Side Note for fellow moms of young kids: We just recently let Reese start using the glass plates while Brooks is served with our fancy melamine dishes (if you have kids but want your table to look dressy – these or these are a MUST!).

Cheers to celebrating more simple and casual moments around the table with the ones you love!
