Make a Special Valentine’s Day Breakfast for the Kids

This Valentine’s Day we are making our celebration a family affair, so I got to work brainstorming some ways to make Reese and Brooks an extra special breakfast for Valentine’s Day morning. Of course the main dish began with heart waffles, but the creative juices started flowing as I began adding little red and white fruits and chocolates on top {see all the details below!}.

Then I always want to incorporate healthy elements into my kid’s meals so when I found the most ADORABLE ‘alphabet cookie cutters’ on Amazon, I thought, who doesn’t want to eat their name cut out of fruit?! To finish it off I made watermelon heart fruit skewers, and voila, an adorable spread!! Read on for all the details and recipes and be sure to check in for my next blog post where I share how I display it on Valentine’s Day morning!

Valentine’s Day Heart Waffles:

  1. Mix Together 2 Cups of Bisquick, 2 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil, 1 and 1/3 cups of Milk, and 1 Egg in a Medium Sized Mixing Bowl, beat until smooth
  2. Heat Heart Waffle Maker
  3. Pour Mixture into Waffle Maker
  4. Once waffle maker beeps, remove fully cooked waffle
  5. After waffle is dry, cut out heart shapes with scissors or sharp knife
  6. Top waffle will thin layer of strawberry or regular cream cheese (depending on your color preference). Not into cream cheese? Sprinkle powdered sugar!
  7. Decorate with raspberries, strawberries, bananas, and chocolates! Get super crafty and shape your strawberries into XO’s with these mini cookie cutters!

Valentine’s Day Fruit Skewers:

  1. Purchase 6 Inch Fruit Skewers and Heart Cookie Cutters
  2. Slice Watermelon Lengthwise about 1/4 inch
  3. Use Heart Cut Outs to create watermelon hearts, once done place to the side
  4. Spear Blueberries onto your skewers (6-8 blueberries)
  5. Top spear end with watermelon heart!

Kid’s Name Food Cut-Out’s {in Melon!}:

  1. Purchase mini Alphabet Letter cookie cutters
  2. Cut Melon to about 1/4 inch thickness lengthwise
  3. Make sure there’s enough room for each letter and push the cutter into fruit
  4. Use your finger of a knife to pop the fruit out of the cookie cutter! Be delicate!
  5. Spell Out Names!

What a yummy and sweet start to the day!
