Summer Time Work Essentials

Summer Time Work Essentials

FH: Congrats on the exciting news!! I put together a list of 8 essentials so you are Wall Street Ready!

#1 A blazer that is sleek yet stylish. I love this one by Theory (a great brand for Wall Street clothes!); the white makes it summer appropriate, the slightly oversized length makes it trendy, while the structure keeps it professional. *Always keep a blazer at your desk in case you get called into a meeting last minute; you always want to look sharp in front of your associates!

#2 A classic LBD (Little Black Dress). This one by Helmut Lang is perfect (But make sure to try it on – when I tested it, it was almost to my knee which is “appropriate” for work but I am 5’4″ so I don’t want to lead you astray. I would say in general stay as close to knee length as possible) Why I love this dress? While the semi-asymetrical cut and back zipper make it cool, while the semi-cowl neck is good for the office. I would say if you “invest” in one thing this summer, make it a black or navy dress, as you can wear it weekly.

#3 A sleeveless silk blouse. I recommend sleeveless because riding the subway can be muggy and humid, so the last thing you want todo is arrive at work with sweat stains. The flowy look is totally on trend, and best of all, it’s comfortable! (I would hate to be holding in my stomach all day in some skin-tight number!)

#4 A Pencil Skirt. It couldn’t be better timing that pencils skirts are SO in style. Keep in mind that they are supposed to be worn pretty high up, so I recommend tucking in your top to show off your slim waist, while the length (again, to your knee) is perfect for the office. I chose a black one here but you can have fun with an array of bright colors mixed back to a muted color top.

#5 Classic nude patent pumps are a must. For summer I would definitely make these my go-to because black are too wintery. I love these closed toe ones by Vince Camuto because they cover your toe nails (no one needs to see your bright purple toes at the office!). *And note I went with a delicate heel. Stay away from wedges, cork, or high platforms. **Also, ballet flats are probably a fine option as well, but make sure to check out the office atmosphere before making an assumption. Worse comes to worse, wear flats for your commute and slip into heels when you are a block away.

#6 & # 7 Classic jewelry like these sweet studs and cuff from Kate Spade. *Avoid multiple bangles or you will be clanking up a storm when hitting your keyboard!

#8 An oversized structured bag. This J Crew one is awesome – it looks exactly like Celine (swoon!)! Why an oversized bag? Because you are going to want space for your phone, wallet, headphones (for listening to music on the subway ride/walk), mini medicine kit (keep advil, tums, bandaids, hand sanitizer, mini deodorant, perfume with you at all times – maybe even leave them at your desk!), lipstick/ligloss, spare shoes/flipflops for walking, snacks (always keep a granola bar with you), and bottled water.

Good luck!! And make sure to attend one of our Delicious and Decadent Dinners while you are here!
