Behind the Scenes in our new Home #MiaChateauFH

Benjamin Moore Color 971 Olympic Mountains

Welcome to the #MiaChateauFH … I have been giving teasers on my Instagram over the last few weeks but now that we have officially moved in, I thought it was high time I gave you a mini tour of the progress on the blog {and of course share some of the details that there isn’t enough time to share on social media}!  Please bear with me on this post as these were taken on my iPhone and not quite the same FH quality you are used to!

So lets head behind the scenes… first off is our foyer, flooded with light, which I have to say is my favorite thing about our new home… SO much natural light! Our interior started out a peachy color {see below} with a similar peach trim for the crown molding and baseboards. To modernize the look a bit, I took out the crown molding and chose a neutral color palette for the walls and baseboard. For nearly every room in our house {the foyer, family room, hallways} I chose Benjamin Moore 971 Olympic Mountains {a slightly off-white color} and for the baseboard, I chose Benjamin Moore 972 Alaskan Skies {a light grey color}. You are probably a bit confused because it looks really white! Well since I have tile floors that have a hint of yellow in them, I couldn’t choose any colors that were too white or the floors would have popped yellow in contrast. By choosing a slight shade of beige, it then balanced off the floors, giving the whole room an almost white {or I like to say “warm”} look… success!

Here is a look at the foyer the day we arrived {in the old color!}. It was actually my daughter’s 3rd birthday so my mom surprised us and decorated the foyer for a little celebration with birthday cake. We all joked that she thought she got a house for her birthday… I guess next year won’t compare at all in size!

Moving on to the kitchen where we really whitened up and modernized. This room was initially painted yellow {including the ceiling}, had black light fixtures above the island, and had gold shiny cabinet pulls. After a lot of back and forth, and even an attempt at a gold light fixture {because gold is really trending in kitchens right now!}, I decided that silver would be my route. Once again I took out the crown molding, painted a clean white {here I chose Bejamin Moore OC-17 White Dove}, changed the cabinet pulls to sleek brushed nickel pulls from MyKnobs.com, and replaced the two light pendants with three Restoration Hardware Benson Pendants {see here}. I chose the 16″ because the island in my kitchen is beyond massive!! This week I will actually be removing the stone backsplash and simply applying a white paint because I still think the stone is very heavy for my usual white palette … stay tuned! On the flip side though, the appliances here were stellar so I am pumped to have them!!

Next are the kids rooms which I simply adore!! Reese’s room was the easiest because we really didn’t do anything! No joke all we did was furnish it since it came with these adorable light fixtures and built-ins! For furniture we placed Reese’s Pottery Barn Kids Blythe Tufted Kids Day Bed and her Carolina Craft Table front and center! I am definitely going to change out the blackout curtains with a less obvious print but that will come eventually.

For Brooks’ room we had a bit more todo. We had to replace the carpeting with this pretty textured grey, we painted the walls Benjamin Moore 1625 Blue Lace {the same as his last nursery}, and we replaced the light fixture with this Pottery Barn Linen Drum Pendant {it is beautiful and a great price!}. We kept his same Giggle crib and leaning bookshelf {similar}, but his favorite addition was his Thomas and Friends train table where he can spend hours playing.

On to the major works in progress….

My office… which is so cute with these windows and sweet light fixture that came with the house! The set-up is seriously throwing me for a loop. Hopefully by next week I will be ready with a reveal; I am thinking to arrange it similar to my last office with a sitting area as you walk in and maybe desk to the side! Again, TBD!

For my dining room and powder room, which are currently stripped of their old curtains, wallpapers, sink vanities, light fixtures, and more {basically a clean slate}, I am totally in love with these Farrow & Ball wallpapers! I am leaning towards the one on the far right {the Amime print in grey} for my powder room matched back to a grey sink vanity with a white marble top. Then for my dining I love the two prints in the middle called ‘Dragged’ Papers but I am still deciding on the exact color! If you also are on the hunt for beautiful wallpaper, you can order samples on the Farrow & Ball website! For lighting, I am going with my Circa Lighting Large Reflection Pendant and adding these four Camille Long Sconces also by Circa Lighting.
