Nursery Shelves

In the last few months we have had a few exciting changes in the kiddos’ rooms… Brooks was rolling and moving so much he was ready to transfer from a mini alba crib {or similar} to a standard size crib, and since Reese was turning two {and realistically we didn’t want to purchase a second crib}, it was time for her to move to a big girl bed {ie. a twin bed with a little guard fence}.

Since the new crib in Brooks’ room took up substantially more space than his last, we had todo a bit of re-arranging and move his large bookshelf into another room in substitute for a narrow leaning shelf I got at CB2 {here’s a similar option}.

Although I had much less space to play around with when merchandising, I still made sure to make it equally as sweet as the initial look. So for those of you working with a small baby nursery space, don’t be disheartened; you can still get all of the ‘oooohs’ and ‘aaawws’ by decorating a narrow and tall bookshelf like I chose here.

For my five tier shelf, I allocated the three top rows for display space and then made the bottom two rows for functionality and storage {while still looking nice}. Anything at eye level is the first thing people see so be sure to make those the least cluttered! On my top three levels {eye level and above}, I displayed a mix of blue and white piggy bankstrinkets, stuffed animals, and blue baby books. On my storage shelves I neatly stacked blankets and then used a Pottery Barn canvas storage bin for miscellaneous toys or anything that could resemble clutter.

My favorite pieces on the bookshelf are the wooden letter ‘B’ for Brooks which was only $10 at Pottery Barn as well as the Mud Pie keepsake boxes for baby’s first tooth and baby’s first hair cut… I don’t know that I plan to use them, but they are cuteness overload. Then I get endless compliments on his mini NIKEs {don’t tell anyone that he doesn’t actually wear them but I love them on display!}.
