1. Hanukkah Decorations Checklist

    Menorah and Hanukkah Gelt

    Happy Hanukkah FH Readers!! It’s time to dust off that menorah and start decorating for the Holiday! So whether you plan to celebrate at home or host a Holiday dinner that includes Jewish friends, here is a checklist for everything you will need to celebrate properly!

    1. A Menorah {A proper one should have nine branches – one for each of the eight nights of Hanukkah and then a ‘shamash’, the center candle usually, which is used for lighting the other candles}
    2. Hanukkah candles. {Make sure they fit in the menorah you own!!} Streit’s, a well-known Judaica company, is a popular go-to.
    3. Hanukkah Gelt, aka chocolate coins. A bag per person or enough to have one at each person’s table setting is how many you should buy.
    4. Dreidels, Hanukkah spinning tops, are cute for decorations as well as Hanukkah games post- dinner.
    5. Anything blue, white, and silver for decor – from table cloths, to napkins, to flowers, these are the colors dedicated to the Holiday!
    6. Optional: Make a traditional Hanukkah food like Latkahs, a potato pancake, or Noodle Kugel {see my low-fat recipe here!}. Place Latkahs alongside small bowls of apple sauce and sour cream for dipping!

  4. 6 Holiday Table Setting Ideas

    With the holidays around the bend, I have had many readers reach out to me for advice with holiday decorations – ranging from my picks for the perfect holiday centerpieces, to simple table accent ideas that will make their party special. I began brainstorming myself and thought, what better way to get inspired than to go back through my some of my favorite Fashionable Hostess Tables {see a full list here} and see what sparked my eye. So here is what I found… 1. {See image above!} Rather than getting crazy with extravagant centerpieces, sometimes a few calla lilies put in…

  5. Host Thanksgiving

    For entertaining this Thanksgiving I love the concept of bringing natural elements to your Thanksgiving table. My inspiration started with my dried wildflowers and then continued with winter vegetables I found in the supermarket like pumpkins, squash and gourds. Rather than using my glass table as I usually do as my base {see my other tables here}, I opted for a printed laminated fabric table cloth from Bed Bath and Beyond. A laminated fabric means you can wipe clean! I layered my Chilewich Pressed Dahlia Placemats over the table cloth for each table setting. I love that these placemats look like woven…
